AIPPI Essay Contest 2021

About the competition

The AIPPI Essay Prize is intended to encourage the art of essay writing on Intellectual Property and related topics. It was first launched in 2020.

The competition is open to AIPPI members and students of IP and involves writing a 2,500 – 3,000 word essay or filming a video on a certain IP-related topic. The video option is a new inclusion for the 2021 competition. Written or recorded entries will have an equal chance to win.

Estonian National Contest of Young Inventors

Inventing is easy! It is important to notice what surrounds us, and to try to improve it.

The aim of the National Contest of Young Inventors is to encourage children to think about
things that do not exist yet, to notice and find solutions to problems that surround them,
introduce the young to the exciting world of inventions and innovation and to acknowledge
young people with outstanding ideas as well as their supervisors and schools. The contest is
open for all students from year 1 to 12 and they are judged in three age groups.

EPO announces winners of the European Inventor Award 2021

The European Patent Office (EPO) today announced the winners of the European Inventor Award 2021, its prestigious annual innovation prize.  The individuals and teams were recognised for their innovative contributions in the fields of nasal drug delivery, DNA-based data storage, nanomaterials in dentistry, solar cells for self-charging devices, organic semiconductors, and advances in tissue engineering.

New ABC Application Gets Accessible Books Directly to People who are Print-Disabled

WIPO’s Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) has launched a new application that makes accessible digital books available for direct download by individuals who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled.

ABC Global Book Service's business application is provided free of charge and connects participating libraries for the blind, known as authorized entities, to allow the sharing of accessible books.

Patents are not an obstacle to ramp up COVID-19 vaccines production, EU says

The European Commission aims to ramp up production of COVID-19 vaccines through “voluntary” sharing of know-how among pharma companies, EU sources said, emphasising that patents are not an obstacle to do that.

“What is most needed now, beyond developing vaccines, is the ramping up of manufacturing of vaccines,” said a source at the European Commission, which coordinates the joint purchase of vaccines at EU level.
