Estonia's second geographical indication “Sõir” (the first one was “Estonian vodka”) has been confirmed by the European Council and published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 09.02.2021, opposition can be filed within three months.
This is important news for Estonian entrepreneurs – first, Estonia will have a second geographical indication (if the indication successfully passes the period of opposition), which will undoubtedly contribute to the reputation of the country and region concerned, and secondly, trade mark applicants need to know and take into account that there are obstacles to registration of the word in the composition of their trade mark.
