Luís Melo

Biography

Luis Melo is a versatile illustrator and concept artist with 10+ years of experience in the videogame industry, in art and art direction living in Lisbon.

His art has also taken him to Shanghai and Québec to lend a hand in many big franchises and indie projects through Spicy Horse studios, Volta Creation, and his own freelancing.

For Spicy Horse he designed several level environments for Alice: Madness Returns (2011), which is the heir of the legendary American McGee's Alice from 2000. The project won the MSNBC best video game art and this success was largely the result of his visual approach that got 10/10 from GameZone and 9,4/10 from IGN.

Luis works in other media types as well, including illustration for books and book covers, comics, playing cards and commissioned posters. He discovered digital art while still in college and everything changed for him when he joined the illustrator forums. Today Melo continues experimenting with new themes and styles. His artistic philosophy is to create “a visual funk party” where the work flows from a genuine, happy place.
