Biography
Rabbit Hole is a Lisbon-based collective and artistic platform for creation and experimentation. Since 2011, it dedicates activity to the production and showcasing of film cycles, performance and video art, theatre, concerts, debates, while promoting encounters, parties and raves. Joana de Sousa is one of the members. She is a filmmaker and curator who holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities. She then received a scholarship to study Documentary Filmmaking at DocNomads, a co-joint master's program across universities in Portugal, Hungary and Belgium.
With this background she attracted the attention of numerous festivals. Joana worked as a producer in two editions of Queer Lisboa, the International Queer Film Festival. Her first short film, Bétail (2014), was selected by international festivals in Portugal, Finland, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, France and Korea, being awarded at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival and Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival.
At the end of 2019, she became part of the Direction of Doclisboa International Film Festival. Joana has participated as a guest curator, jury and speaker at international festivals in Copenhagen, Lisbon, Porto, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Grimstad, Zagreb and Munich.
