Zuzanna Czebatul

Biography

Polish sculptor Zuzanna Czebatul is recognized as one of the most interesting young artists in Europe, a master of using architectural elements to make powerful statements.

Her work emphasizes the flexibility of politics, ideology and culture as shaped by people daily.

After a period of zero-waste lifestyle Zuzanna realized people accumulate and consume a plentitude of things they do not really need.

She does not exclude her own work from being environmentally questioned from the perspective of materials, packaging and transport.

She is very thoughtful of the qualities and characteristics of her materials and refers to them as friends.

Art for her is a medium of communication and has the ability to illustrate hidden aspects of the world or how it could be.

Zuzanna’s practice is always tied to various political discourses.

She believes artists have the obligation to be critical to the prevalent pursuit of nationalist and economic interests and highlight the absurdity of rigidity and intolerance.

Her own works often blur the lines between commercial products, architectural relic and artistic production and turn the gallery space into a dystopian lounge.

The artist’s work was on display in galleries throughout Germany and beyond.

She has participated in such group exhibitions as A Perfect Lie in the Galerie Jeanroch Dard, Bruxelles, Say My Name, Say My Name at the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, and Nothing Ever Happened in Chapter 61, New York.

Zuzanna Czebatul lives and works in Berlin and New York.
