Måneskin

Biography

Who are they? Vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. Their influence is already visible and causing a stir. Thanks to them, Italy has been recognized for something other than Andrea Bocelli, the young American music fans are aware of the Eurovision song contest and rock music has a new face and sound. On the 2021 Eurovision Måneskin faced 180 million international viewers and the huge majority loved them. But that did not happen out of the blue.

They created the band as teenagers in 2015 during their high school days in Rome, with Ethan Torchio from nearby Frosinone soon joining them when they were inquiring for a drummer to complete the line-up. And they started busking in Rome, playing at their school, restaurants, and wherever they could get a gig. “In Rome there aren’t many venues for upcoming bands, so it was quite hard,” recounts De Angelis. “That’s why we played a lot on the streets. We really worked hard and spent every day immediately after school rehearsing and never going out anymore with our friends.”

The name Måneskin, Danish for 'moonlight', came when they decided to register for Pulse, a local music contest for emerging bands. Victoria De Angelis is half Danish by the way, but the meaning is not related to the band itself. The Pulse Contest marked a turning point in their career because they had to start writing their own songs. They performed at the Felt Music Club & School in front of 200–300 people, and later won first prize. Next year 2017 they finished second in the eleventh season of the Italian talent show X Factor.

On November 1, Måneskin played a sold-out show at the legendary Roxy in L.A. and during the performance proved to be full of surprises - stagediving, tossed drinks and sweat. As Variety reported, beyond the smokey eyes, fishnets, and leather, they are skilled musicians and performers, captivating on stage.
Måneskin has over 730 million streams on Spotify alone.
