How an award-winning AI film was brought to life by text-to-video generation

If you’re impressed by the recent spate of text-to-image generators, get ready for the next step in AI artistry: text-to-video. While the huge compute costs and scarcity of text-to-video datasets have stunted the technique’s growth, recent research has brought the promise closer to reality. A computer artist called Glenn Marshall has given a glimpse at the potential.

The Belfast-based composer recently won the Jury Award at the Cannes Short Film Festival for his AI film The Crow.

The winners of the design competition "RoheAsi" were announced. The Estonian Designers' Union and the City of Tallinn announced the winners of the design competition "RoheAsi" for environmentally friendly souvenirs. In the category Sümboolne RoheAsi (Symbolic GreenThing), the first place went to the beeswax food towel (Maret Sikstus) and the second place went to the stone card pocket Seif, authors high school students Arti Henri Lukk, Sten Ingerainen and Joosep Lukin.

The EPO has named 13 outstanding inventors or teams as finalists of the 2022 European Inventor Award. The prize celebrates their genius and creativity, and recognises their contributions to a brighter and more prosperous world. With eight women named finalists and multiple inventions in green technologies, the 2022 Award also reflects progress and positive societal change. The winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on 21 June.

EPO announces winners of the European Inventor Award 2021

The European Patent Office (EPO) today announced the winners of the European Inventor Award 2021, its prestigious annual innovation prize.  The individuals and teams were recognised for their innovative contributions in the fields of nasal drug delivery, DNA-based data storage, nanomaterials in dentistry, solar cells for self-charging devices, organic semiconductors, and advances in tissue engineering.
