Estonian Museum Annual Awards nominees announced

The commissions of the Museum Council selected the nominees for the Estonian Museum Annual Awards, Museum Rats, in nine categories. The winners will be announced on January 28, 2022, this year's conference and gala will be organized by the Estonian Road Museum in Põlva County.

The competition received 93 applications this year, the number of applications has remained stable over the years.

Estonian artist Konrad Mägi’s painting sells for a record price in Sweden

Estonian artist Konrad Mägi’s painting “Rome” sold for €302,000 at the Swedish auction house, Bukowskis – a new record for Estonian art.

Mägi’s “Rome” was on the auction for an estimated price of €35,000, but its hammer price exceeded the estimate for almost ten times. The painting had once belonged to Aleksander Varma – a former prime minister of the Estonian government in exile.

Another of Mägi’s painting, untitled, was also sold – for €238,000. According to Bukowskis, both works were probably made during the early 1920s.

Robot Sophia to attend a robotics festival in Estonia

The annual robotics festival Robotex International is due to take place in Tallinn from 5-7 November; in addition to autonomous machines, a renowned humanoid robot called Sophia will “make an appearance” at the festival.

The festival will host competitions and robotics workshops and sheds light on autonomous machines and electromobility. It will also showcase locomotives developed and produced in Estonia and abroad.

Estonian National Contest of Young Inventors

Inventing is easy! It is important to notice what surrounds us, and to try to improve it.

The aim of the National Contest of Young Inventors is to encourage children to think about
things that do not exist yet, to notice and find solutions to problems that surround them,
introduce the young to the exciting world of inventions and innovation and to acknowledge
young people with outstanding ideas as well as their supervisors and schools. The contest is
open for all students from year 1 to 12 and they are judged in three age groups.

Estonia joins Agorateka

Estonia is the latest country to join the initiative, linking 5 portals (Jupiter, Estonian shorts, Pro-music, Just Watch and SROC) that guide users to legal Series & Films, Music and Sports events. With this new addition, the initiative now covers 22 countries and over 2800 Legal Offer Sites!
