Modernism is both a philosophical movement and an art movement that arose from broad transformations in Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The first Modernism painting is said to be Édouard Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass", created back in 1862, and one of the most famous late works of this period is the Marilyn Diptych by Andy Warhol's. Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the styles and philosophies of the art produced during that era.
